In the past period, the University Clinic for Traumatology, Orthopedics, Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive Care and Emergency Center (TOARILUC) admitted a large number of patients injured in traffic accidents, including about five motorcyclists with serious injuries, and cases of collapse caused by high temperatures have also been registered, informed the Clinic’s director, Dr. Igor Merdzhanovski.
“We have a patient with a neck injury who we managed to save and we expect his condition to be good. We also had a patient who was involved in a traffic accident after collapsing due to the high temperatures, losing consciousness and hitting another vehicle. That patient also underwent surgery,” said Merdzhanovski.
He urged citizens to be careful in conditions of high temperatures, to avoid traveling during the hottest part of the day and to drink enough fluids.
Responding to a reporter’s question about whether the heat wave is affecting the number of patients with injuries, Merdzhanovski noted that this summer there have been more cases of heat-related collapses.
“There are construction workers who have fallen down on site, patients who have collapsed while driving, and there are also elderly people who fall and suffer various fractures due to the heat,” the Clinic’s head informed.
According to Dr. Merdzhanovski, most often these are fractures in elderly patients, who then require surgical treatment.
