Two cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed at the University Clinic for Infectious Diseases and Febrile Conditions laboratory, the clinic’s director Fadil Cana told a press conference Saturday.

Both patients are in hospital under medical supervision, receiving treatment in line with the latest medical guidelines.

“Their health condition is being carefully monitored,” Cana said.

West Nile fever is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito.

The majority of infected patients have no symptoms or only have mild symptoms. A small percentage of patients, however, particularly older adults and people with weakened immune systems, can develop severe neurological complications.
