The announcement of the opening of an antimony mine in Kriva Palanka became the reason for public quarrel between the opposition SDSM and the Kriva Palanka mayor coming from the opposition’s ranks, Sasho Mitovski. SDSM attacked its mayor Mitovski in a party press release for siding with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski over the mining project.
“The people of Kriva Palanka should be asked about the antimony mine via referendum. Mayor Sasho Mitovski cannot decide alone or negotiate with Mickoski. The citizens of Kriva Palanka, and not experts connected to VMRO-OCG and Mickoski’s business interests, should decide whether they want an antimony mine in their area. SDSM is not against investments, but against a mine that threatens health and kills silently. Antimony mining is one of the most toxic mining activities in the world.
Mayor Mitovski must know when he is talking to Mickoski, the man who deals exclusively with his private business, wears watches worth EUR 65,000 while the people starve, buys private jets and generates electricity through honorary consuls like his friend Dushan Adamovikj.
