The water from the city water supply inValandovo is back in full use as of Friday, according to the document issued by the competent Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA), which lifts the previous ban on drinking water , Valandovo Mayor GjokoKamchev said in a press conference.
However, for a week the ValandovoPE Communal Service did not inform the public about the ban on drinking water from the water supply system.
The decision to ban, according to the FVA, was submitted on 16.07.2026, but it was only made public on the 23rd of this month, on the official website of the utility, as well as on its Facebook page, from where other media outlets picked it up.
The initial analysis of the water was carried out by the Public Health Institute (PHI), at the request of the public enterprise.
A water sample was taken from the tap in the company’s yard on June 11, and the results were ready on July 2. It showed an increased concentration of arsenic in the water by 40 percent, i.e. from a maximum of 10 micrograms per liter, there were 14 micrograms in the water. This result was submitted to the Food and Veterinary Agency.
“After receiving the result on July 3, the competent inspection service was notified, and on July 16, an extraordinary inspection was carried out and a decision was made to ban the use of drinking water. The public enterprise was ordered to limit the supply of drinking water, inform citizens and take measures to eliminate the causes of pollution,” said Dr. Martin Joseski from the Food and Veterinary Agency.
