The five parties making up the VLEN coalition merged into a single political entity at a congress attended by 850 delegates in Skopje on Saturday evening. The party will have two co-leaders –Chair Municipality Mayor Izet Mexhiti, and Tetovo Mayor Bilall Kasami – and was described by its leaders as a party operating from the center-right of the political spectrum.
According to Mexhiti, these are moments when time requires not only change, but also unity.
“However, although the differences did not go away, right now those forces united around a greater goal: to put an end to the long era of stagnation and to open a new chapter for Albanians in Macedonia. This was not an easy alliance, but it was a necessary alliance,” Mexhiti said.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs, Bekim Sali, noted in his speech that the unification of this entity conveys a clear message of unity and Euro-Atlantic orientation.
