The Protection and Rescue Directorate head Stojanche Angelov informed that despite the rain that fell on most of the country’s territory the day before yesterday and evening, the number of wildfires is not dropping and there were at least 31 wildfires on Thursday.
In a video statement, Angelov points out that it is characteristic that during Thursday two fires were deliberately set and lit again on Kitka and on Mount Zheden and urges if anyone notices suspicious behavior to report it to the single emergency number 112.
Two of the fires are large and cover a larger area and are hard to extinguish.
The first large fire is located on the territory of the City of Skopje, Municipality of Gjorche Petrov, in the area of the villages of Grachani and Nikishtane. This fire entered the Macedonian side from the Kosovo side three days ago.
The second large fire is located on the territory of the Municipality of Struga, which borders the Municipality of Debar. Struga firefighters are working on this fire, the line of fire is very large, the fire is taking place in difficult-to-access terrain, mixed forest, in some places low-stemmed plants, bushes, thorns, grass, but it is also very difficult to extinguish.
