Turkish Foreign Minister Melvut Cavusoglu addressed yesterday’s golf tournament between businessmen and diplomats in Ankara to Macedonian Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador Zvonko Mucunski and asked: “Why did Macedonia not change its name when it didn’t receive a date from the EU,” Turkish media reported.
“Ambassador of Macedonia, I apologize to our Greek friends, but I will still say Macedonia. Why did you change your name? So that you become a member of NATO and start negotiations, and be accepted in the EU. As NATO we have fulfilled our promise and invited you. Unfortunately, the EU failed to keep its promise. You didn’t get a negotiations date, it’s not in your favor. Ambassador Zvonko Mucunski is cooperating and really helping, thank you,” Cavusoglu said, speaking at the awards ceremony.
