The cable and telecom operators decided to stop retransmitting all domestic and
foreign televisions except the public broadcaster. The decision on termination of
retransmission has already been made by the Association within the Economic
Chamber of Macedonia in which all operators are members.
All members of the Association of over 40 operators voted for this decision. The
reason for such a move is the adoption of the amendments to the Law on Media
Services on the day the Assembly was dissolved. These amendments to the Law on
Operators, under the threat of material and criminal liability, impose an obligation on
them to guarantee the copyright of programs that they do not produce but merely
retransmit.
