A meeting of foreign ministers will take place in Skopje on Tuesday, marking the
beginning of the 2020 joint presidency of North Macedonia and Bulgaria with the
Berlin Process.
The meeting brings together foreign ministers of the Western Balkans and EU
member-states within the Berlin Process, along with representatives of EU
institutions and the Regional Cooperation Council.
The FMs of Albania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Serbia, Germany and Italy are among
the event participants.
The meeting will focus on topics related to regional cooperation and the area’s
European perspectives in the context of the coming European Council in March and
the Zagreb summit in May. A joint declaration is to be adopted at the end of the
meeting.
This is the first time since 2015 that a member state and a candidate country co-
chair the Berlin process. The joint presidency of Bulgaria and North Macedonia is a
strong signal of regional ownership and an opportunity to present important regional
topics in a wider European context.
