VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski participated in the Summit of Leaders of the European People’s Party (EPP), which focuses on the region of the Western Balkans, of which Macedonia is a part.
In his video address, Mickoski thanked Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic for his support for the Union’s enlargement, as well as EPP President Donald Tusk, with whose support the summit was organized with a focus on the region.
The President of VMRO-DPMNE pointed out that the new government led by his party is ready to put Macedonia on the fast track for membership in the European Union, focusing on the key problems of the country that need essential solutions.
“In this sense, we understand that we have to do our homework. This means tackling high-level corruption, establishing a functioning system of rule of law, accountability and strengthening our political and judicial system so that it is transparent and provides a framework for legal certainty. This can be achieved and the next VMRO-DPMNE-led government will adhere to these principles,” he said.
Mickoski, despite the serious shortcomings of the current government, urged for speeding up the process of Macedonia’s integration into the Union, and to assess our progress based on EU standards, values and principles.
“I urge you to help speed up the process of holding the first Intergovernmental Conference to enable accession negotiations with the European Union. We, VMRO-DPMNE are ready to set the negotiations on a fast track based on the most important standards, values and principles of the EU,” said Mickoski.
