The Agricultural Inspection of the State Inspectorate of Croatia, in a major action to suppress the trade in counterfeit and insufficient quality food and beverages, found wine from Macedonia, Italy and Chile.
“In a major operation by Europol and Interpol codenamed ‘OPSON 2020’, backed by 83 countries, the Croatian Inspectorate inspected a total of 275 wine and spirits labeled entities placed on the market,” the Croatian State Inspectorate said.
As stated, it was found that five controlled entities abused the use of Croatian traditional terms – quality wine of controlled geographical origin and top wine of controlled geographical origin, of wines not of Croatian origin but originating in Macedonia (one wine ), Italy (two wines) and Chile (two wines).
The OPSON campaign was supported by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), the European Commission and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
