New protests and actions against the decision of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to increase the electricity price by 7.4%.have been announced in Skopje, Tetovo, Prilep, Bitola, Kicevoetc., for Friday (August 21).
“Dear citizens, given that the ERC and the Government of RNM still do not respond to the demands of the citizens, the Skopje Protest Council, supported by the Police Union, the Education Union, the Confederation of Trade Unions and other civil associations and NGOs, decided to continue with peaceful protests against rising electricity prices. But this time without speeches, but with blockades at intersections, according to the model of 2 intersections in 2 hours, and then 4 intersections in 4 hours, etc.,” reads the announcement for the protest in Skopje.
The protesting board demands that the ERC immediately offer the decision for the increase of electricity, to reduce the price by 46%, the VAT discount from 18 to 5%, to dissolve the ERC, but also to form an independent arbitral body in the service of the citizens to check the quality of energy services.
