The Macedonian economy is collapsing, and the COVID-19 epidemic and the failed measures of the SDSM-led government have caused the country’s economy to decline.
Gross domestic product (GDP) for the second quarter was -12.7 percent, according to data from the State Statistical Office. There is a decline in all parameters except public consumption. Exports suffered the most. According to yesterday’s SSO reports, exports in the first seven months fell by 21.4 percent, while imports fell by 17.3 percent.According to the published data, the value of exports in the period January – July 2020 is 3,297,625 thousand US dollars. The value of imported goods in that period amounted to 4,511,999 thousand US dollars, which is 17.3 percent less compared to the same period last year. The trade deficit in the period January – July 2020 amounted to 1,214,374 thousand US dollars.
The economic situation, which is catastrophic according to economists, was expected. With the lockdown that started in March and lasted all spring, the shopping malls, restaurants and cafes did not work. Many of the factories stopped working and all events were canceled. But here the culprit for this economic situation is also due to the populist and unsuccessful measures of the government which did not help but further ruined the economy.
The opposition says that this government has historically the largest decline in GDP and the worst situation in the economy, and they blame the criminal government of SDSM and ZoranZaev.
