Health Minister Venko Filipche announced at Friday’s press conference that the situation with the coronavirus is being monitored, and new restrictive measures will be proposed on Monday if the situation worsens this weekend.

The Commission for Infectious Diseases at a meeting Friday passed proposals for more restrictions, including total ban on events, ordering all businesses to close by 11 pm and public transportation capacities to be slashed by 50%, said Filipche.

A serious percentage of people who recently contracted the new coronavirus don’t know where they got infected. With the measures we’ve proposed, we are targeting several factors to reduce the risk of virus transmission, said Minister Filipche.
This first set of restrictive measures refers to the mandatory wearing of a protective mask outdoors, a ban on more than four people after 10 pm and a ban on home visits of more than four people.

“Analyses of the epidemiological data suggest that the spike comes as a result of holding events, concerts, parties, the things we saw on TV, people grouping and breaching the measures, not wearing masks or maintaining distance,” said Zharko Karadzovski, head of the Commission for Infectious Diseases.
