The government discussed at its 19th session the Justice Ministry’s proposal for amending the Law on Misdemeanors in order to increase by 20 times the sum of environmental pollution fines.
Changes will regulate misdemeanors referring to violation of environmental standards by polluters.
Harmonizing environmental standards with the already existing Law on Misdemeanors will lower the amount of fines issued, but won’t cut the sum of fines, due to increasing need to strengthen penalty policy in the area of environment, said the Ministry.
