Serbian Patriarch Irinej dies from COVID-19

The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Irinej, has died from the consequences of coronavirus infection.

Patriarch Irinej died shortly after 7am on Friday at the Army Medical Centre in Belgrade where he was admitted on November 4 after testing positive for the novel virus. He was 90. On November 1, he led Mass in Podgorica at the funeral of Metropolitan Bishop Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral who died from COVID-19.

Patriarch Irinej became the 45th head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in 2010.
