The mass gatherings for the celebration of the Bogovjavlenie – Epiphany have been canceled, reads the statement of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric.

For the first time in three decades since the restoration, there will be no mass celebrations of Epiphany on the rivers and lakes in Macedonia. The Synod of the MOC-OA decided this year to postpone the celebration due to the pandemic, but still the Epiphany will be celebrated in the courtyard of the churches.

This means this year the traditional throwing of the holy cross in the waters for the Epiphany holiday will not be held and there will be no mass gatherings on the banks around rivers and lakes.
