President Stevo Pendaroski’s office announced on Monday that the head of state signed the decree promulgating the law on 2021 census of population, households and dwellings, a move criticized by the opposition VMRO-DPMNE.

The President, his office said in a press release, signed the decree after consulting with legal experts.

Pendarovski, the press release read, expressed expectations that the census process will not to be politicized and that the data obtained will be useful for the country’s overall development, enabling establishment of long-term strategies in key areas.

VMRO-DPMNE reacted to this by stating that Pendarovski “never came out of the shadows” of Prime Minister ZoranZaev, although he knew that it was a political and not a statistical opposition, reminding that the government did not accept any amendment to the law submitted by the opposition.
