Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi on Thursday proposed three possible dates for holding local elections in North Macedonia – October 3, 10 and 17.

He is obliged to schedule the election ninety days ahead of voting day, i.e. by August 1, at the latest, depending on the date political parties agree on.

Xhaferi added that if local and early parliamentary elections are held at the same time, stakeholders must have in mind how that will affect caretaker government deadlines and campaigning, as well as the activities of the State Election Commission and other relevant institutions.

Regarding demands made by the opposition to hold early parliamentary election at the same time as the local election, he noted that one MP can submit the proposal, which will require appropriate majority to pass in Parliament
