The number of workers receiving the minimum wage has increased to around 100,000 due to non-compliance with laws and collective agreements by unscrupulous employers, the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) announced Monday.

“In 2011, when SSM launched the campaign on May 1 for the need to pass a law on the minimum wage, 60,000 to 70,000 workers were at the border or received a salary equal to the minimum wage. Today, with the increase of the minimum wage, due to the unscrupulous employers and the balancing act that was made because the employers, instead of respecting the laws and the collective agreements and spirally increasing the other wages, they illegally pay the workers only in the amount of the minimum wage”, although it is not legal, so the number of workers receiving the minimum wage has grown to about 100,000 workers,” said SSM in a statement.
