More than 11,000 people signed the online petition demanding the withdrawal of the new jerseys of the Macedonian national football team, less than 24 hours after the initiative was launched on Friday on social media.
The petition entitled “Macedonia at the European Championship in the old jerseys!” showed up on the Internet after FFM yesterday presented the new jerseys for the debut performance of the Macedonian football players at Euro 2020, causing divided reactions in the public. The withdrawal of the traditional red-yellow jersey and its replacement with a burgundy redesign caused particular criticism.
The Football Federation of Macedonia (FFM) so far has no official reaction to the initiative to withdraw the new jerseys in burgundy, white-yellow and black-orange combination designed by the German manufacturer of sports equipment “Jako”.
On its official website, “Jako” announced Friday that the new Macedonian jerseys can already be bought in Germany in specialized stores for sports equipment.
The captain of the Macedonian national team Goran Pandev, who should join the national team in the preparations in Skopje, last night posted on his Instagram profile a photo of himself posing in a red-yellow jersey in which he scored the winning goal against Georgia in the qualifying round of the upcoming European Championship.
