Тhe EU needs to find a way to integrate the Western Balkans, which would be a geographical and political consolidation on the European continent. This process is of strategic interest to both sides and requires greater involvement of the countries in the region in the debate on the future of the EU, in a way that was initially enabled during the Prespa Forum and the panel of the Conference on the Future of Europe, said Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani.
FM Osmani addressed a panel of foreign ministers on “The International Community and the Western Balkans: How to End the Quarantine?”, which took place as part of the Dubrovnik Forum on Saturday.
Osmani referred to the recent Prespa Forum Dialogue which took place in Ohrid, the overall reform context related to the formal start of negotiations with the EU, as well as the expectations of candidate countries and aspiring countries for EU membership.
He said that in bringing the region closer to the EU, Brussels should guarantee a predictable and credible process, pointing out that in such a process both sides would fulfill the commitments taken on – delivered reforms for a formal start of accession negotiations, both for North Macedonia and for Albania.
