Director of the State Statistical Office Apostol Simovski told Kanal 5 TV that the hundreds of Afghans expected to arrive in Macedonia and be temporarily cared for would not be registered.
“Afghans will not be registered in the upcoming census. There are special protocols for enumerating refugees and asylum seekers prescribed by the United Nations, but they do not fall into this category,” Simovski said.
The biggest statistical operation starts on September 5, and he says that the census can certainly be performed on citizens who have expired ID cards.
“We are interested in the ID number, not whether the ID card has expired. We want to get the correct ID number,” said the head of the SSO.
