Regarding the decision of Montenegro, Bulgaria and Macedonia not to allow Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to fly to Belgrade, the State Department said that “they, as sovereign states, made sovereign decisions on airspace, reflecting Europe’s determination to demand accountability from Russia for the invasion of Ukraine”.

State Department spokesperson Ned Price told a news conference that the United States was urging Serbia to focus on its goal of EU membership, including aligning its foreign and security policies with the rest of Europe, reports Voice of America (VOA).

“We repeatedly urge Serbia to take steps to move forward on the European path, including diversifying energy sources, reducing energy dependence on the Russian Federation and aligning its foreign and security policy with the EU. We still want to be a partner of Serbia and help it in its efforts to strengthen energy security in the long run,” Price said.
