Urgent changes are needed to the Law on Associations and Foundations in which their names will be unequivocally legally regulated, including the procedure for registration of names that include historical events and personalities, the Office of Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski informs on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, as a country, we have not learned a lesson from the recent naming of the club in Bitola after a historically proven collaborator of the Nazi regime. Urgent changes are needed to the Law on Associations and Foundations in which their names will be legally regulated in an unambiguous way, including the procedure for registration of names that include historical events and personalities,” President Pendarovski said, commenting on the newly formed Bulgarian associations in the country.
The President’s Office points out that for this purpose it is necessary to determine a competent institution that will give mandatory consent in the registration procedure, and not as before, through the consent of their relative or heir, it is possible to register an association with the name of a person that indisputably offends some Macedonian citizens.
