Pursuant to Article 14 of the Law on Citizenship, the Government has requested to initiate activities to cancel the decision on admission to the citizenship of North Macedonia for Oleksandr Onishchenko, informed the government press service on Thursday.
The Government initiated the request to revoke Onishchenko’s citizenship, after the held government session at which the National Security Agency informed about the case, the statement added.
Ukrainian citizen Onishchenko, who is on the US blacklist because of his ties to Russian authorities, received Macedonian citizenship as an equestrian athlete at the suggestion of the Equestrian Federation. The decision to grant Macedonian citizenship to Onishchenko was made by the Government, after receiving a positive evaluation from all competent institutions.
