The former director of Customs, Dragan Daravelski, is a free citizen as of today, that is, he will be released from the Idrizovo prison. The Criminal Court informs that both the first and second instance courts accepted Daravelski’s request for a retrial, because the retrial will establish the absolute statute of limitations of the criminal offense for which he was prosecuted, which expired last year, i.e. 20 years after it was perpetrated.

Daravelski was sentenced in absentia to seven years in prison in 2007 for Abuse of Office and was wanted on an international warrant. According to the verdict, he damaged the state budget by 2.5 million euros in the period from 1999 to 2002. A month ago, he was arrested again at the Tabanovce border crossing while trying to enter the country, which he had not set foot in for two decades.
