The territorial firefighting unit from Kochani localized and managed to completely extinguish the forest fire that broke out Sunday afternoon on the slopes of the Osogovo Mountains, ten kilometers from the city.
About 20 hectares with spruce and low-stemmed plants were burned in the fire, and with the quick and efficient intervention of the firefighters, the spread of the fire to the evergreen forest was prevented.
“Around 1:00 p.m., we received a call about a forest fire in the Megdano area of the Osogovo Mountains and immediately sent a team with three firefighters and one vehicle, but due to the wind and the rapid spread of the fire, another team participated in the intervention. In just two hours we managed to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to the evergreen pine and fir forest that was in the immediate vicinity. This is the first major forest fire this year in our region, which caused only material damage and endangerment of natural resources, which is why we appeal to the citizens to be more careful when staying in nature,” said the commander of the Kochani fire department, Vlado Jeftimov.
