The Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue BekimMaksutistressed that the three firefighting planes are functional and ready for extinguishing fires in the summer period. He indicated that public procurement will be opened on Tuesday for additional new planes.
“Both aircraft were used throughout. We had an intervention in November last year, which is not typical for that time period, and on January 7 of this year, when an airplane intervened in the fire. The third plane returned last week and is ready for use. Today we will open a new public procurement for other aircraft,” Maksuti said at the handover of the donation from the Government of Romania to SSO. Maksuti stressed that the challenge for the institutions and the Government remains to solve the problem of not having enough pilots for airplanes.
