In the Tetovo Basic Court, the closing arguments of the Prosecutor’s Office and the defense of the accused that are charged with several crimes related to the fire in the modular hospital in September 2021, when 14 people lost their lives, should be held on Tuesday. The evidence procedure in the trial ended with the last witnesses being heard on April 6th.
At the last hearing, after the completion of the testimonies, Judge Jordan Velkovski asked the lawyers if the defendants would testify, to which the defense attorneys replied that the defendants would not testify.
The former directors, Florin Besimi and Artan Etemi, are charged with the crime of “serious crimes against general safety”, while Doctor Boban Vuchevski is charged with “failing to comply with health regulations during an epidemic”. The clinical hospital as a legal entity is charged with two crimes, first for “causing public danger” and for “failing to comply with health regulations during an epidemic”.
