The ITUC (World Confederation of Trade Unions) supports the demand of the Macedonian trade unions, that the country’s government abolish the dangerous changes to the laws on labor relations.
On May 8, the Government submitted a proposal for amendments to the labor legislation to the Assembly of North Macedonia, with the intention of using a fast parliamentary procedure for enacting the amendments into the law.
If passed, the bill would allow employers to increase working hours to 60 or even 72 hours a week for all seven days.
Foreign private sector actors are suspected of pressuring the Government to make the changes, which are against international labor standards.
