The staff at the Skopje Psychiatric Hospital cannot establish order in receiving therapy for patients. Conflicts between patients in the ward are very frequent, in certain cases verbal quarrels resulted in mutual physical attacks, and there were allegations of an established informal hierarchy between patients of superiors and subordinates.
The situation is especially alarming in the afternoon and evening when there is only one medical technician and one paramedic present in the ward, said State Ombudsman Naser Ziberi at a press conference where he presented the data from the Annual Report of the National Preventive Mechanism. He added that escapes from this hospital are also common, and the main reason is the poor living conditions, the lack of organized activities and the disapproval of therapeutic weekends.
