The Government should once again consider the possibility of possibly covering the costs at least for ID cards, an obligation that is imposed by the Law on ID Cards itself. For all citizens who, through no fault of their own, are left without a valid ID card, the state should bear the financial cost, Ombudsman Naser Ziberi said in a statement to the media.

Ziberi points out that in the past period, the Ombudsman received complaints on two grounds, that is, the lack of an opportunity to schedule an appointment for changing documents and financial burden.

“Our competences are limited in the direction of overcoming the problem. We raise the issue almost daily and inform the public that complaints are coming in. Based on those petitions, we turn to the competent institutions, in this case to the Ministry of Interior. This problem opened up in the last few days after the citizens could not get an appointment to start the procedure for renewing documents,” Ziberi said.
