Customs officers have seized a minibus after discovering its overhead ventilation system had been uniquely modified to conceal contraband goods.

The minibus, which had Albanian license plates, was searched at the Tabanovce border crossing. It was carrying passengers from Tirana to Brussels.

The customs officers found that the ventilation system of the minibus’s passenger compartment had been removed to create an empty space.

“This space was covered by a panel screwed into place and then covered with upholstery,” the Customs Administration said in a press release.

“Charges were filed, the vehicle was seized and a fine was imposed on the driver for violating Article 263 Paragraph 7 and Article 269 Paragraph 2 of the Customs Law,” the press release added.
