I would like to support this very important report. It is rightly said that – the Parliament should condemn the use of spyware by state bodies for political purposes, which is a violation of the right to respect for private life and other rights guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights, pointed out VMRO-DPMNE deputy leader Aleksandar Nikoloski in his address to the Council of Europe.
“The use of Pegasus-type spyware should be limited to exceptional situations as a last resort, for real and serious threats to national security or specific and defined serious crimes.
Countries that have allegedly used Pegasus for illegitimate purposes should inform the Assembly and the Venice Commission of its use, conduct effective investigations and provide compensation to victims.
In my country Macedonia, there is great concern that the Government is illegally using malicious software to intercept the communications of the opposition, including me, as well as the leader of the opposition, Hristijan Mickoski, and other high-level politicians. We asked for parliamentary supervision, but we did not receive a credible denial that in Macedonia there is no supervision of citizens with so-called malicious software or advanced software, which literally enters the citizens’ homes,” said Nikoloski
