Convicts from the Skopje Idrizovo Penitentiary are demanding a meeting with the Ombudsman and the Helsinki Committee, otherwise they are announcing a hunger strike starting Tuesday.

The administration confirms that they have received a letter announcing a hunger strike. The letter states that the strike is due to the convicts who were injured this weekend during a search in the semi-open ward.

“We, the convicts from the NPO-department at the Idrizovo Penitentiary, inform that starting Tuesday, October 31, we are going on a hunger strike because of the seriously injured convicts who are not given medical care even though they have severe bodily injuries as a result of the police action,” reads the convicts’ letter.
