State Examination Center (SEC) staff salaries may rise as of January, Macedonian Minister of Education and Science Jeton Shaqiri said in an interview with TV 24.

Commenting on the Center’s strike, Minister Shaqiri said it was wrong of them “to gain popularity by blocking 500 teachers.”

“It is true that talks [over higher pay] with the State Examination Center have been going on for seven months, but it is also true that we have a new general collective agreement, new Ministry of Finance decisions, and International Monetary Fund notes on how to increase salaries,” said Shaqiri.

The minister said he was in favor of their wages rising in December but administrative procedures had got in the way.
