On the last working day of the year, the Management Board of the Health Insurance Fund of Macedonia made a decision to cut the funds to cover cardiovascular disease operations for private hospitals.
In the explanation of this decision, it is written that cardiovascular diseases are the most common diseases in Macedonia, and huge funds are spent on their treatment. The Fund says that a large part of these operations can be performed in the state Cardiac Surgery Clinic, so most of the money for which the HIF covers the costs will go to the account of the public health institution, the University Clinic for State Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology.
