Total of 14,360 citizens signed petitions for presidential candidates by February 24

According to the latest data released by the State Election Commission (SEC) as of February 24, 2024, a total of 14,360 citizens signed the petitions of the presidential candidates.

According to the published data of the SEC, so far none of the candidates for the head of state has collected the necessary ten thousand signatures from the citizens.

According to the section of the SEC, Bujar Osmani, candidate of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), has the most signatures, or 5,405 people signed his petition. Second on the list is the leader of ZNAM-Za nasha Macedonia, Maksim Dimitrievski with 3,613 collected signatures. The candidate supported by the Levica party, Biljana Vankovska-Cvetkovska, has collected 2,758 signatures, and the GROM candidate Stevcho Jakimovski collected 1,974 signatures.

The others on the list of 11 candidates for head of state have less than a thousand signatures each – Velo Markovski has 249 signatures, and the candidate of the opposition bloc Vredi, Arben Tarvari, has 246 signatures. According to SEC data, in these two days, not a single signature has been collected for candidate Tome Nikoloski.

The collection of signatures will take place in all SEC departments and offices across 34 municipalities, and before notaries public. The offices will operate every day in two shifts, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. On the final day, March 8, the offices will be open until midnight.

The first round of the presidential elections is slated for April 24, with a possible runoff to take place alongside the parliamentary elections on May 8.
