There is no transparency of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Revenue Office (PRO), which announce only how much VAT refund has been paid, and not how much they owe to the economy, the Additional Deputy Minister of Finance Elena Petrova said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
“The facts are that there is a EUR74 million debt for unpaid VAT at the end of the first quarter and a EUR16 million debt for late payment interest.
No matter how much they present themselves as a “partner” of the economy, the facts say that they do not care about its liquidity. Not only do they not have the capacity to timely service the economy with the VAT refund, but they also did not protect the Budget from refunds with fictitious invoices, did not detect and prevent such tax frauds,” said Petrova.
