The new state chief public prosecutor was sworn in Thursday in Parliament. Speaking to the press, Nenad Saveski said he will work in line with the Constitution, the laws, ratified international documents and international standards.

“This is a great responsibility and at this moment I want to urge all public prosecutors together with me who are doing their job while I am making this statement. Their work neither begins nor ends with me. Each public prosecutor has a legal duty to act on current cases. I know the prosecution team and I believe in them, and together I’m sure that we will meet the expectations of the citizens in whose name, the Constitution and the law we public prosecutors act,” said Saveski.

Regarding the fight against crime, Saveski pointed out that the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) cannot do anything alone if it does not have support from other institutions.

“It is a fact that the PPO needs financial resources, the fight against crime requires financial support. In order to fight crime effectively, there must be conditions for that. One of the conditions is that we have the financial ability to fight and monitor crime and to detect and bring anyone who has violated the law to justice,” Saveski pointed out.
Saveski will be the ninth chief state prosecutor of Macedonia since the country’s independence in 1991 and the 19th since 1945. His election follows the resignation of former Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski.
