Fire destroys 20 hectares of forest, extinguished after 11 p.m

Dry grass and low degraded forest were set on fire on an area of ​​​​about 20 hectares in the village of Makresh, Municipality of Staro Nagorichane, the Staro Nagorichane Territorial Fire Fighting Unit said Saturday.

“The fire was reported at 7 p.m. and we managed to extinguish it a little after 11 p.m. It is a larger area, the fire affected dry grass, low-stemmed forest,” said the battalion chief of the Fire Fighting Unit, Dalibor Trajkovski.

The police recently arrested a resident of this municipality who is suspected of setting fire to stubble, after which he caused a fire on someone else’s property. The largest of the fires in this municipality in recent years have been in open areas, according to data from the Staro Nagorichane Fire Fighting Unit.

The police also announced that they have arrested a 75-year-old man from the village of Erdzelija suspected of causing a fire, which burned dry grass and reeds. The police acted on a previous report that there was a fire on the local Kadrifakovo – Erdzelija road. The fire was extinguished by a team from the Sveti Nikole Territorial Fire Department, and no one was injured.
