Macedonian Prime Minister HristijanMickoski rejected accusations from the main opposition party SDSM that he’s hindering the country’s EU integration, assessing that it’s a matter of political rhetoric and an attempt to court foreign factors.
According to the PM, such claims are part of, as he put it, the ‘soft policies” of the opposition which, instead of protecting national interests, are directed at foreign political centers.
“I don’t know how we’ve blocked the European path, but do we know that rhetoric of SDSM. That is the soft tissue of the Macedonian identity. These are those soft policies,” said Mickoski.
He adds that he does not want to get involved in pre-election processes in the neighboring countries, but accused SDSM of actively participating and trying to position itself before the Bulgarian public through its positions.
“I see that SDSM is fiercely involved and acts as a municipal organization of one of the parties that are fighting in the elections in our eastern neighbor,” noted said the PM.
Mickoski assesses that such an approach, in his opinion, does not contribute to progress in European integration.
“Instead of trying to please Macedonian citizens, they are more interested in pleasing Bulgarian politicians. That’s SDSM’s EU path,” added PM Mickoski.
