Former Macedonian President StevoPendarovskisent a clear message to the leadership of his SDSM – that the party is at a serious crossroads and that without profound changes it may face further decline and even political marginalization.
In his statement, Pendarovski assesses that the current political situation shows a clear paradox: Although the ruling coalition led by VMRO-DPMNE has lost part of its traditional support, SDSM has failed to take advantage of this and channel the opposition sentiment among voters.
“When you have failed to do that, the recipes are clear – either you change the political strategy and approach to citizens, or you bring in new people who will know how to reach different layers of the electorate,” Pendarovski said.
According to the former head of state, the problem is not in communication, but in the essence of political action – that is, in the strategy, staffing structure and the way the party addresses the general public. Pendarovski warns that with the current trend of declining support, SDSM may face an even worse result in the next elections.
