A young bear was filmed near the village of Lazaropole. Visitors who were hiking in the area filmed the bear near the road leading to the village. The recordings and photos were released on the Facebook page vejljetog.mk.

The Facevook post urges everyone in this area if they spot a bear, to remain calm and do not approach it.

The same social media page announced two days ago that a large bear was filmed in Gorna Belica, on the Jablanica Mountain. The bear was recorded by security cameras installed on houses. The footage shows the bear walking through yards and past houses.

At the end of last month, a brown bear was spotted in a parking lot in Rostushe. The video posted on social media showed the bear walking past vehicles in the parking lot, and when local dogs started barking at it, the bear leaves the premises. This was the first such case in recent months, unlike the previous one when bears were repeatedly spotted in several villages in the western parts of the country. In the past two years, there have been several bear attacks reported, and they could often be seen along the roads.

Last July, a 41-year-old woman from Tetovo’s Sinichane was attacked by a bear while walking along a forest road in the area of the village. Earlier, in February last year, a teenager of about 15 years old was followed and chased by a bear for two hours in the area of Krapa in the municipality of Makedonski Brod. The child was not directly attacked or injured by the bear and managed to escape, but fell while fleeing, when he was returning to the fold, i.e. home to the village, together with the flock of sheep.

The brown bear population in Macedonia is part of the Dinaric-Pindus population, which extends from Slovenia in the north to Greece in the south. In Macedonia, it inhabits deciduous and mixed mountain forests in the western, southern and southwestern parts of the country, and in the eastern part, individuals from neighboring Bulgaria are occasionally encountered. Their number on the territory of Macedonia is estimated at approximately 300.
