Macedonian Government Spokesperson Marija Miteva told a press conference Thursday that Makpetrol has reduced the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by MKD 5 per liter, i.e. from MKD 59 to MKD 54, as of midnight. In addition, a decrease of MKD 10 per kilogram has been recorded in wholesale trade, which is approximately MKD 5 per liter.

“What is particularly significant is that other companies on the market are also following this trend. In retail, prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at gas stations have already been reduced in the range of MKD 5 to MKD 6 per liter and range from MKD 53 to MKD 54,” said Miteva.

According to the spokesperson, this is not another isolated step, but a systemic reaction of the market that comes as a result of a clear institutional signal and coordination.

“I want to clearly stress that this reduction is not the result of a short-term market coincidence, but is the result of an analysis by the SMI and through an agreement and assumed responsibility by the traders, to reduce gross margins. We have reached an agreement that these margins will be reduced and maintained at that level in the coming period, so that we do not have the oscillations that we will have now, this week towards a decrease, and next week we would have an increase, which means that we will have a reduction of more than 10% in wholesale trade and 9 to 10% in retail. This measure came through an argumentative analysis and institutional action. Based on a detailed analysis conducted by the State Market Inspectorate (SMI), the spaces for correction in the price structure were detected, followed by discussions with the traders and reaching an agreement to reduce gross margins,” said Miteva.
