The EU fully supports the Government in the implementation of major infrastructure projects. We are talking about serious implementation of projects, about the development of Corridor VIII, a vital corridor, a corridor that NATO has declared the second most important security corridor, Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said in a social media post Thursday.

“The projects are being implemented with good dynamics, in the part of the motorway connection we reconstructed the Deve Bair border crossing, we put the Kriva Palanka bypass into operation, we put the expressway from Stracin to Kriva Palanka into operation, we are working on the construction of the Tetovo – Gostivar and Gostivar – Bukojchani motorways, we are working on the completion of the Ohrid – Kichevo motorway, and we are currently in the final phase of selecting a contractor for the Kicevo – Bukojchani motorway.

Regarding the railway, in about ten days the tender for the construction of the third phase of the railway to Bulgaria will be announced, that is, the section that goes from Kriva Palanka to the joint tunnel that we have with Bulgaria, we will soon have the reconstruction of the railway from Skopje through Jegunovce, Tetovo, Gostivar to Kichevo.

The construction of the road and railway section of Corridor VIII will cost up to EUR 5 billion, the projects for the railway and motorway connection in our country are progressing well and I hope that our neighbors Albania and Bulgaria will work with the same responsibility,” Nikoloski said at Thursday’s meeting on implementation of the works along the Corridor VIII, organized in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union in Skopje.
