One construction worker died and three were seriously injured after being buried by an earth embankment at a construction site in Skopje’s KiselaVoda.
According to initial unofficial information, the injured workers are aged between 35 and 45, and the victim was 34 years old.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) informs that three workers were buried by earth at a construction site on Kozjak Street while digging foundations. Two of them were pulled out and transported to the Mother Teresa Clinic Complex by ambulance, and measures are being taken to extract the third person in coordination with the Central Medical Center and the Fire Brigade.
The advisory group of the opposition SDSM in the Municipality of KiselaVoda is seeking responsibility for the tragedy during the excavation of foundations for a new building.
“This raises serious questions about the safety of construction activities, compliance with regulations and the role of institutions. That is why today we have submitted a request for an urgent convening of an extraordinary session of the KiselaVoda Municipality Council,” said Daniela NastovaPishtolova, coordinator of the SDSM advisory group.
The SDSM advisory group is demanding the establishment of an independent expert commission that will conduct a full review of all issued construction permits on the territory of the municipality. An immediate moratorium on all construction activities until it is determined that they are safe and in accordance with the laws. Ensuring full transparency via the public release of all documents, permits and findings related to construction.
KiselaVoda Mayor BetiStamenkoska-Trajkoska expresses deep condolences for the tragic event that occurred on the territory of the municipality.
“The safety of citizens and workers is an absolute priority and must not be the subject of political points. At this moment, the competent institutions are acting and checks are underway to determine all circumstances related to the event. The municipality is fully cooperating with the institutions and will act in accordance with all findings and recommendations,” said the municipality mayor.
Stamenkoska-Trajkoskaexpressed understanding for the public’s concerns, but urged for responsibility and restraint from presenting unverified information and politicizing the incident
