Institute of Economics professor Biljana Angelova has been reelected rector of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje.
Academic staff across all university units held a secret ballot on Tuesday to choose between the two candidates for new rector – Biljana Angelova and Darko Danev.
According to the minutes, Angelova won 2,924,125 points, while Faculty of Mechanical Engineering professor Darko Danev won 2,675,875 points in Tuesday’s secret vote.
Voting took place at 23 faculties and five institutes within the state university. Voting began and ended at the scheduled time, and according to the submitted minutes and reports, no irregularities or problems were reported.
On the day of voting, 1,286 members of the academic staff across all university units cast a vote for a university rector, with 148 votes left uncast and 59 invalid.
According to the University Election Commission, Angelova’s term as rector begins on Sept. 16, 2026, and ends on Sept. 15, 2029.
“The rector’s rights and responsibilities are governed by the Law on Higher Education, the Statute and other acts of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University. This decision takes effect upon adoption,” noted the University Election Commission.
