It is necessary to reach an agreement with neighboring Bulgaria that will not have assimilation provisions regarding the Macedonian identity, assessed the leader of VMRO-DPMNE Hristijan Mickoski on Tuesday, warning the current Government not to dare to obstruct the procedure for scheduling a referendum in connection with the annulment of the already reached treaty which the opposition evaluates as extremely harmful and blackmailing.
“Until the Treaty with Bulgaria is abandoned, VMRO-DPMNE will not support any constitutional amendments,” Mickoski said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
The opposition leader stressed that the party is not against Bulgarians being part of the Constitution, but emphasized that the treaty is assimilationist and should be canceled.
